Hermann Otto Serner (born April 10, 1857 in Sagan , † June 9, 1929 in Dresden ) was a German impressionist landscape painter .

Life

Otto Serner first attended the Art Academy in Berlin and from 1882 to 1886 the Art Academy in Düsseldorf , where he was a student of Eugen Dücker and Olof Jernberg . In 1885 he traveled to Italy for the first time to study the intense southern light. At the suggestion of his teacher Dücker, Serner also painted on Rügen , where he artistically dealt with the representation of the original landscape forms and the light reflections of the sea waves. From 1897 Serner lived in Breslau . He later settled in Dresden and went on several study trips abroad on behalf of the last King of Saxony , in particular to Italy and Greece . His favorite subjects included wide views of the sea under glaring sunlight. Most recently Serner lived in Cunnersdorf near Hirschberg and Dresden.
