Otto Thörner
Otto Julius Thörner (born June 18, 1873 in Chemnitz ; † February 6, 1945 there ) was a German teacher and local poet.
Life
Born in Chemnitz, Thörner attended the teachers' seminar in Zschopau from 1887 to 1893 . He then worked as an assistant teacher in Bernsdorf near Chemnitz until 1896 . From 1897 to 1899 he worked as a teacher in Reichenbach in the Vogtland . Then he got a teaching position at the André School in Chemnitz; here he was promoted to senior teacher and retired in 1936. Among his fellow teachers was the Erzgebirge poet Max Wenzel . In his spare time he wrote a number of High German poems that were valued by his contemporaries but have largely been forgotten today.
Thörner died during a major Anglo-American attack on Chemnitz when a bomb was hit.
