Carl Emil Otto Weber (born October 17, 1832 in Berlin , † December 23, 1888 in London ) was a German genre and landscape painter who worked in Germany , France , Italy and England .

Life

Weber was the son of the businessman Wilhelm Weber and his wife Henrietta. He studied in Berlin at the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts with Carl Steffeck and in Paris with Thomas Couture .

From 1863 to 1864 he visited Brittany , where he painted romantic genre pictures from everyday life. Here he discovered the village of Pont-Aven in 1864 , where his first picture, "Noce à Pont-Aven", exhibited at the Paris Salon , was created. Later, the artists around Paul Gauguin founded the Pont-Aven school there . Weber took part in the Paris Salon until 1869, and his works were awarded medals in 1864 and 1869.

After the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, Weber had to leave France. He spent the next few years in Rome .

At the invitation of Queen Victoria , Weber came to London in 1872, where he spent the rest of his life. From 1874 to 1888 he exhibited his works at the exhibitions of the Royal Academy of Arts . He was also elected a member of the "Old Watercolor 'Society" and was also a member of the "Institute of Painters in Oil Colors". He received orders from the queen. The works that were created in London include The First Snow on the Alp , Doughty and Carlisle (The Queen's Dogs), Greedy Calves and A Sunny Day, Cookham .
