Otto von Auwers
Otto Arthur Siegfried von Auwers (born July 1, 1895 in Heidelberg , † November 4, 1949 in Clausthal ) was a German physicist .
Life
Auwers was the son of the chemist Karl Friedrich von Auwers . He studied natural sciences at the universities in Heidelberg , Munich and Marburg . He then worked as an assistant at the Universities of Danzig and Greifswald , where he also received his doctorate .
From 1924 he worked as a physicist in the laboratories of the Siemens factory , where he mainly worked in research. In 1935 he was able to be "external" at the University of Berlin habilitation and was there in 1943 as an associate professor hired. Auwers became famous for his investigations into photoelectric effects and ferromagnetic materials.
After the end of the war, Auwers was appointed full professor in Clausthal in 1946 , where he taught for another three years. On November 4, 1949 von Auwers died at the age of 54.
The astronomer Arthur Auwers was his grandfather.
