Otto von Dewitz (lawyer)

Otto Balthasar von Dewitz , actually Otto von Dewitz (born July 19, 1853 in Cölpin , † November 4, 1919 in Neustrelitz ) was a Mecklenburg landowner and administrative lawyer.

Life

Otto von Dewitz was a son of the landowner and MP Friedrich von Dewitz and his wife Thekla, born. von Maltzahn (1819–1902). The future Minister of State Friedrich von Dewitz was his older brother.

Dewitz attended the Katharineum in Lübeck until Michaelis Abitur in 1874 and studied law at the universities of Heidelberg and Leipzig. In Heidelberg he became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg .

In 1878 he entered the Prussian service as a trainee lawyer in Berlin. In 1881 he switched to the administrative service of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . He became assessor in 1884 and chamber assessor in Neustrelitz in 1885. In 1889 he was promoted to the Chamber of Commerce under appointment as a member of the Grand Ducal Building Department, the Grand Ducal Finance Commission and the State Insurance Office. In part-time he was house marshal at the Neustrelitzer Hof. From 1904 he was chairman of the Grand Ducal Chamber and Forestry College.

Otto von Dewitz inherited the Helpt estate , which he sold to Hans Bodo Freiherr von Bodenhausen in 1911 .
