Otto von Grote (born September 1, 1620 in Breese im Bruche (Lüchow-Dannenberg), † May 24, 1687 in Berlin ) was a member of the Fruit Bringing Society , a literary group from the Baroque era .

Life

Grote is the son of the Swedish colonel Johann von Grote and his wife Margarethe Gertrud von Spörcken .

At the age of 22, Grote enrolled at the University of Königsberg on January 24, 1642. But already in 1648 (1650?) We find Grote as the Brandenburg governor of Tangermünde . Around 1664 he advanced to the same position in Neuendorf (Potsdam-Babelsberg).

On March 27, 1648, Grote was accepted into the Fruitful Society together with Joachim von der Marwitz , Joachim Sigismund von Loeben (1604–1654) and Georg de Hertoghe . Grote is the name given to the company for obstacles and the motto for heavy breathing . As an emblem he is given the sea twing and its vinegar ( Urginea maritima L. ). Grote's entry in the Koethen Society Book can be found under No. 503. There you can also read the rhyme law, which Grote wrote to thank you for the admission:

Sea twing vinegar is served with them
Who are white about shells, prevent heavy breathing,
If the tough mucus stings us very much in holer breast,
And you almost want to embroider, as then it is reduced:
That is why I am called as a hindrance: Difficulty will be ruined
Through constant faithful service, so is also alleviated
How difficult a business can be for us
Nothing prevents us from doing it with God.

In 1651 Grote was appointed to Berlin as a member of the chamber judge and in 1656 promoted to the Privy Council. With effect from September 7, 1655, Grote also held the office of provost in the Havelberg district.
