Thomas August von Grote

Thomas August von Grote (born July 1, 1654 in Berlin ; † February 23, 1721 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general of the cavalry , commander of the cuirassier regiment No. 2 , chamberlain , knight of the Order of St. John and heir to Priort near Potsdam.

Life

origin

He was the son of Otto von Grote (1620–1687) and his wife Louise Margaretha, née von Rochow (1626–1660). His father was the Kurbrandenburg Privy Councilor , Provost of Havelberg and heir to Stillhorn, Priort and Carpzow.

Military career

Grote attended the Knights Academy in Lüneburg in 1668 and entered service in Brandenburg as a lieutenant in 1670. In 1684 he became captain and wing adjutant to Friedrich Wilhelm . As early as 1692 he was a lieutenant colonel in the newly established Brandenburg Garde du Corps . On June 11, 1696, he became Colonel of the Guard and Chamberlain . On January 13, 1703, Grote became major general . From 1713 he was in command of the Cuirassier Regiment No. 2 . Grote became lieutenant general on May 27, 1715 and took part in the campaign against Sweden in the same year .

He died on February 23, 1721 in Berlin and was buried in the Parochialkirche .

family

He was married to Justine Luise von Oldenburg (* May 6, 1657, † June 27, 1708). The couple had at least one son:

  • Karl August (* 1669; † December 3, 1761), lieutenant colonel, governor von Bublitz ∞ Margarethe Sophie von Pannwitz (* May 28, 1701; † May 10, 1789)
