Oueah (also: We`a , Wê'a ; Arabic وع) is a place in the Arta region of Djibouti .
geography
Oueah is located on National Highway 1 on the way west from Djibouti to the Dikhil and Ali Sabieh regions and is 33 km east of Djibouti. Oueah is the second largest town in the Arta region after the city of Arta and, due to its location, is an important trading point and resting place for trade with Ethiopia .
The place is located in the Wadi des Oued d'Ambouli , which runs parallel to the coast to the east and only flows into the Gulf of Tadjoura in the urban area of Djibouti . A chain of hills separates the town from Arta , the capital of the region, 3 km to the north. About 2 km west of Oueah, the N4 road branches off to Arta. Another nearby place is Holhol and in the east near Gaourir the shooting range Champ de Tir de MIRYAM extends . There are public buses that connect Oueah with Djibouti. Oueah is at an altitude of 455 m above sea level . There is also agriculture in the area.
history
The name "Oueah" literally means "curve" in the Somali language . In the first half of the 20th century, the place belonged to the protectorate of French Somaliland .
population
In 2012 the population was estimated at around 3,200 people. The inhabitants belong to several Afro-Asian ethnic groups, with the Issa clan from the Somali people making up the majority of the population.

The climate in Oueah can be described as a semi-arid climate with hot summers and cool winters ( Köppen-Geiger system : (BSh)). The warmest month is June with an average temperature of 33.9 ° C. In January the average temperature is 21.8 ° C. Precipitation ranges from 2mm in June to 42mm in November, with an average of 34mm.
