In 1960 the place had just under 1600 inhabitants; twenty years later there were about 11,000. The enormous increase is mainly due to the immigration of Berber families from the mountain regions of the Anti-Atlas and the High Atlas .
economy
Oulad Teima is the agricultural center of the fertile but irrigated Souss plain. Grains as well as bananas, pumpkins and vegetables of all kinds are grown. The city has an agricultural engineering university and a modern infrastructure. In the non-irrigated surrounding area, argan trees also grow, from whose seed platelets oil is extracted in cooperatives .
history
Nothing is known about the history of the old Berber settlement; the rapid growth of the place only began after the end of the French protectorate .
