Outsider is a Slovenian feature film from 1997 . Directed by Andrej Košak , who also wrote the script. Bindweed Soundvision and RTV Slovenia produced the drama, which is one of the most commercially successful Slovenian films to date. He treats the failure of an overpowering father and his family as an example of the failure of Yugoslavia under Tito .

action

Shortly before Tito's death, the family of a Yugoslav army officer settled in Ljubljana . His family finds it difficult to make friends, the son Sead joins a gang and falls in love with his classmate Metka. About this he comes into conflict with his father and also with the authorities, which escalates into the fact that Sead kills himself on the day Tito dies in Ljubljana.

The film, the production cost of which is estimated at 60 million tolar , was released in Slovenian cinemas on February 13, 1997, where it was seen around 90,950 times. This made it the most successful local film in Slovenia until Branko Đurić's Kajmak appeared in marmelada in 2003.

Awards

At the Mostra de Valencia 1997, Outsider was awarded the Palmera de Bronce , the “bronze palm”. At the Cairo International Film Festival 1997, the film took part in the international competition, one of the most important in the world, for the Golden Pyramid , but had to admit defeat to Bigas Lunas The Titanic's maid . Davor Janjič was awarded Best Actor .

The film was Slovenia's nominee for Best Foreign Language Film at the 1998 Academy Awards , but was neither nominated nor awarded.
