Overthrust is a four-piece death metal band from Botswana .
history
Overthrust was founded in 2007 or 2008 in the city of Ghanzi in the African state of Botswana . The group consists of bassist and singer Tshomarelo "Vulture Thrust" Mosaka, lead guitarist Shalton "Spencer Thrust" Monnawadikgang, rhythm guitarist Lepololang "Godfather" Malepa and drummer Gakeitse "Suicide Torment" Bothalentwa.
The only album to date was released on April 8, 2012 under the title Desecrated Deeds to Decease .
The group is now supported by the government of the African state, as in the organization of the small music festival Overthrust Winter Mania , which also serves as a charity event, as the proceeds also go to local AIDS aid. In the summer of 2016, the group played concerts in Germany and Switzerland for the first time , including a performance at the Wacken Open Air and the International Summer Festival in the Kulturfabrik Kampnagel in Hamburg .

In September and October 2017 Overthrust will complete their second tour through Germany together with the grindcore band Congreed .
style
At concerts, the group appears in black leather clothing, studded belts, cowboy hats and bandanas. In their songs, the group celebrates topics such as witchcraft and ghosts , which is why believers often equate them with Satanists .
“Our problem is the religious people. Some of them think metal music goes against what they preach. And they take that personally. And then they say, Metal fans are Satanists. "
However, the lyrics are also about death , repulsive deeds and morbid horror stories.
The group says of their music that they play Death Metal as it was played in the early years. According to Vulture Thrust, Death Metal is a "unique, complicated, terrifying and interesting genre of Metal ", which is characterized by heavily distorted guitars , a raw and dirty sound, double blast beats , deep guttural or growls in the direction of Gothic Metal . The musicians were inspired to found Overthrust by a variety of death metal bands, including Deicide , Morbid Angel , Broken Hope , Obituary , Carcass , Cannibal Corpse and Autopsy . Overthrust's music is comparable to several Florida Death Metal bands , such as Mantas , Aggressor and Dead .
The gutturally performed vocals are reminiscent of Cannibal Corpse, although this is in phases comparable to Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead . It is said that Kilmister made a massive contribution to the creation of the metal scene in Botswana .
