Ovidio G. Assonitis

Ovidio Gabriele Assonitis (born January 18, 1943 in Alexandria , Egypt ) is an Italian film producer and director .

Life

As the son of the Italian film dealer Romeo Assonitis, Assonitis was involved in the film business from childhood and was initially responsible as a distributor of cinema films for the Southeast Asian market before he decided in 1968 to start producing feature films himself. His works, which were geared towards popular taste, were mostly financially successful. In 1974 he also occupied the director's chair for the first time under the pseudonym Oliver Hellman , which he took a few more times. In 1987 he moved the center of his life and his production company to the USA . There are over 50 films in his filmography.

Assonitis is married to Sonia Molteni , who has sometimes and incorrectly been assigned his pseudonym. James Cameron made his first film Piranha 2 - Flying Killers for Assonitis, but he fired him while filming.
