Oxingale Records is a Canadian independent label based in Montreal . It brings contemporary classical music , new music , as well as crossover and jazz .

history

Oxingale Records was founded by musician Matt Haimovitz and his wife, composer and record producer Luna Pearl Woolf , in 1999 under the umbrella of their production company Oxingale Productions, Inc. In addition, Oxingale Press, a music publisher, is one of their activities.

The name is a word creation by Haimovitz from ox (ox) and nightingale (nightingale). It is based on a saying attributed to Voltaire who said to the cellist Jean-Louis Duport : "Sir, it is a miracle. You have turned the ox into a nightingale." The Oxingale logo shows a chimera with a four-legged friend that has a bird's head.
