Oxynoemacheilus is a genus of benthic freshwater fish from the family of the brook loaches (Nemacheilidae). Two species arenativeto the Balkan Peninsula , the others to the Middle East .
features
The animals have a cylindrical, elongated body and small eyes that are located high up on the body. The lower mouth is surrounded by 6 barbels which the animals use to search for invertebrates living in the ground to serve as food. The yellow body is more or less strongly marbled. In contrast to the genus Barbatula , which also occurs in Europe , the tail fin ends clearly concave and is supported by 17 soft rays (15–16 in Barbatula ).
