Architecture and history

The civil servants' apartment tower planned in 1905 according to plans by Friedrich Pützer is now a symbol of the Merck company . The tower clearly marks the main entrance to the factory premises.

In the 1900s the chemical and pharmaceutical factory moved from Mercksplatz in downtown Darmstadt to its current location . Pützer planned the tower , the administration , several laboratories and a workers' settlement for the Merck company. Of Pützer's buildings, only the six-story tower with its mighty mansard roof and the clock tower has largely been preserved in its original state . The striking structure consists of masonry with a steep, tiled mansard roof and a plastered facade . Today the building no longer serves as a residential tower.

Monument protection

For architectural and local historical reasons, the striking building is a cultural monument .
