PJ Wolfson

Pincus Jacob Wolfson (born May 22, 1903 in Brooklyn , New York City , † April 16, 1979 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles ) was an American screenwriter , film producer and writer .

Life

Pincus Jacob Wolfson was born the son of Russian Jewish immigrants in New York City. His father worked as a plumber and he himself studied pharmacy at Fordham University . He later wrote his first novels while working in a pharmacy in Madison Square Garden . With his Bodies Are Dust , written in the style of Roman noir , he made his debut as a writer in 1931. The book was later translated into several languages. A German translation was published in 2005 by the Berlin publishing house Pulp Master under the title Scourge of Wickedness . In France, the fan base was immensely larger and, in addition to several new editions, the book also served as a template for the crime film The Bull of Paris , published in 1985 by Maurice Pialat , with Gérard Depardieu and Sophie Marceau in the lead roles.

From 1932 he also worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood . He wrote several screenplays with Allen Rivkin in particular , including The Man with the Camera and I Dance Just For You . By the end of the 1940s he wrote over 30 screenplays and worked for film production companies such as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , RKO Pictures , Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures .
