P. Shiv Shankar

P. Shiv Shankar ( Punjala Shiv Shankar ; Telugu పి. శివశంకర్ ; * August 10, 1929 in Mamidi Palli , Andhra Pradesh ; † February 27, 2017 in Hyderabad ) was an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC), who among other things was Foreign Minister as well Was governor of Sikkim and Kerala .

Life

P. Shiv Shankar was appointed Minister of Law and Justice (Union Minister of Law and Justice) to a Union government in 1980 by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and held this office until 1982. After temporarily becoming Minister for Petroleum, Chemicals and Fertilizers in 1982 (Union Minister for Petroleum, Chemicals and Fertilizers) , he was then Minister for Energy, Petroleum and Coal from 1982 to 1984 .

On May 16, 1986, Shiv Shankar was appointed by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to succeed Bali Ram Bhagat as Union Minister of External Affairs of India , but after only a few months he handed over the office to Narayan Dutt as part of a cabinet reshuffle on October 22, 1986 Tiwari . He himself was appointed Minister of Commerce (Union Minister of Commerce) in this government reshuffle and held this ministerial office until 1987. As part of a new government reshuffle, he was again Minister for Law and Justice in 1987 and remained in this ministerial post until 1988. At the same time he was also Minister for Planning and Program Implementation between 1987 and 1988 .

Most recently Shiv Shankar held the office of Minister for Human Resources Development in the cabinet of Rajiv Gandhi from 1988 to 1989 .

On September 21, 1994, President Shankar Dayal Sharma appointed him governor of Sikkim and thus the successor to Radhakrishna Hariram Tahiliani . He held the office of governor of this state until November 11, 1995 and was then replaced by KV Raghunatha Reddy .

Subsequently, Shiv Shankar followed on November 12, 1995 B. Rachaiah as governor of Kerala and remained until May 1, 1996 in this post of governor, before he was succeeded on May 5, 1996 by Khurshed Alam Khan .

After leaving the Congress Party in 2004 and retiring from active politics, he joined the Praja Rajyam Party in 2008 .
