history

In August 1995 P3tv was awarded the contract by the network operator at the time, Kabelsignal St. Pölten, following a tender to start operating a local television program in the cable network. The station started on December 12, 1995 in the south of the city on Landsberger Strasse. Due to the legal situation at the time, broadcasting operations initially had to be broadcast with still images for a few months . Only 25 minutes of current programs from St. Pölten were broadcast once a week. At the beginning the broadcast material was produced on M2 magnetic tape , then on DVCPro tape . In 2000, P3tv, with the support of Rudolf Rotheneder, tried to make videos available on the Internet, at that time still for ISDN lines in lower quality.

Since January 2001, the regional TV program has been digitally processed by P3tv and put into the Kabelplus network via fiber optic lines . The program is broadcast as an MPEG-4 stream. A few years later, the videos are also available on the company's own website. In October 2005 the station moved to a new studio with 250 m² of office and production space. The station had meanwhile become the market leader in the central region and is the oldest private regional broadcaster in Lower Austria. In September 2007, Sparkasse NÖ Mitte West AG announced that it would take a majority stake in the station.

From March 2008 to April 2013 the program was also broadcast via DVB-T . Initially via the Jauerling transmitter , and from December 2008 additionally from the transmitter at the Klangturm in St. Pölten, both on channel 38 in single-frequency operation. When SimpliTV started operating , terrestrial broadcasting was discontinued.

In February 2010, together with tirol tv, a transponder was put into operation via the Astra satellite in order to be able to use program windows alternately, including P3tv three times a day. The distribution was stopped. At the end of 2010, Rudolf Vajda GmbH - the founder of P3tv - took over the majority of the regional broadcaster's shares from the Sparkasse.
