PAK6 , also known as PAK5 , is a gene that codes for the serine / threonine protein kinase PAK6. The enzyme plays a role in regulating gene transcription . It is activated by various effectors, including the androgen receptor (AR) or MAP2K6 / MAPKK6 . The kinase phosphorylates the DNA-binding domain of the androgen receptor and thus prevents AR-mediated transcription and also ESR1 -mediated transcription. It is also possible that PAK6 plays a role in regulating the cytoskeleton by interacting with IQGAP1 , and that it protects cells from apoptosis by phosphorylation of BAD .

family

The p21-activated kinase 6 belongs to the family of p21-activated kinases , which comprises two subfamilies: PAK1 , PAK2 and PAK3 are activated by binding to activated CDC42 and RAC1, while PAK4 and PAK-5 act independently thereof.
