PB Djarum

Perkumpulan Bulu Tangkis Djarum ( PB Djarum for short ) is an Indonesian badminton club that originally comes from Kudu . It was founded in 1974. Numerous world-class players come from the club.

history

As early as 1969 employees of the PT Djarum company began to play badminton in the village. In 1974 the association was founded with Setyo Margono at the seat, and in 1976 the branch in Semarang followed . In 1976 Liem Swie King was in the All England finals for the first time . In 1977, 1978 and 1979 he won there. In the last year the club members Hariamanto Kartono and Rudy Heryanto also won the men's doubles there. In 1984 Indonesia won the Thomas Cup in Kuala Lumpur . With Liem Swie King, Hastomo Arbi , Hadiyanto , Kartono , Heryanto , Christian Hadinata and Hadibowo seven of the eight players came from the PB Djarum. Only Icuk Sugiarto did not come from the PB. In 1985 the branch in Jakarta was founded, in 1986 the one in Surabaya . 1991 Ardy Wiranata won the All England. A year later, Alan Budikusuma became Olympic champion, and in 1996 Antonius Budi Ariantho and Denny Kantono won bronze there. 1997 Sigit Budiarto and Candra Wijaya became world champions. Another medal followed at the 2000 Olympics with silver for Trikus Haryanto and Minarti Timur . Four years later, bronze for Eng Hian and Flandy Limpele followed , and in 2008 bronze for Maria Kristin Yulianti .
