The electric locomotive 161 AE of the Compagnie du chemin de fer Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée , later 1ABBA1 3500 of the SNCF , was an express locomotive for 1500 V direct current . The locomotive was assigned to the Chambéry depot and was used on the north ramp of the Mont-Cenis railway before being scrapped in 1967.
history
The locomotives were delivered in 1925 for trial operation on the Maurienne line . It was the prototype for the subsequent series of ten locomotives of the 161 BE series . In contrast to the series locomotives, which were intended for freight traffic, the 161 AE had a gear ratio that allowed a top speed of 110 km / h. In addition, the drive gears on the 161 AE were spring-loaded. The locomotive developed by the Société d'étude pour l'électrification des Chemins de Fer (ECF) was very similar to the boxcab locomotives built in North America at the same time .
technology
The two halves of the double locomotive lie on two close -coupled bogies so that the locomotive bodies do not absorb any tensile or compressive forces. The two inner bogies have two driving axles , the outer ones have one driving axle and one running axle with a smaller diameter. The drive takes place via paw-bearing motors . The starting resistors are controlled by individual electro-pneumatic contactors , the grouping of the motors by cam switches .
