Paavo Kortekangas

Paavo Yrjö Antero Kortekangas (born November 4, 1930 in Lapinlahti , Finland , † July 21, 2013 in Tampere , Finland) was a Finnish theologian and Lutheran bishop . He was first from 1975 to 1981 bishop of the Diocese of Kuopio and then until 1996 of the Diocese of Tampere .

Kortekangas passed the theological and 1955 the philosophical candidate exam in 1952. In 1965 he became a licentiate in theology and later in the same year a doctorate . In the 1950s and 1960s he worked as a parish priest in Kurikka , Seinäjoki and Kauhajoki and as a psychology , philosophy and religion teacher at various schools . From 1966 to 1970 he was director and researcher in the research institute of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church. At the same time Kortekangas worked as a researcher and teacher at the University of Helsinki from 1967 , and from 1970 until he was ordained bishop in 1975 he was also professor of modern church history and church sociology .

His son Olli Kortekangas has become known as a composer.
