Pablo Giw (born March 28, 1988 in Cologne ) is a German jazz and improvisation musician ( trumpet , electronics).

Live and act

Pablo Giw has German and Iranian roots; he is the grandson of the artist Nader Ill . He has been playing the trumpet since early childhood and had private and music school lessons at the Rheinische Musikschule in Cologne. He passed the Abitur at the music high school ( Humboldt Gymnasium ); Five years of instruction and musical training with Markus Stockhausen followed . Giw then took up studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, but dropped out after just one semester in order to develop independent musical projects.

Giw plays in the duo DUS-TI with the drummer Mirek Pyschny , with whom he has so far released two albums and appeared at the Moers Festival in 2012 , as well as in the duo Turnbull Giw , in the formation Brasswire , a duo project with Til Schneider. He also took part in the recordings of Samy Deluxe ( Black and White , 2011), Joss Turnbull ( Isturnbull ), and La Papa Verde ( I Can't Understand , 2008). In 2013 he played in the Trio Right Before the Rain with Oleg Hollmann (baritone saxophone) and Antoine Duijkers (drums).

style

Giw's style is characterized by a variety of advanced playing techniques and creative use of electronic sound processing. In addition, the artist often integrates his own voice in a virtuoso manner in his trumpet playing. Giw's music oscillates between improvisation, instant composing and composition. Giw uses elements and timbres from a wide variety of music styles such as free jazz , heavy metal and Persian music .
