Systematics
The species was first described in 1887 by John Gilbert Baker .
Two varieties can be distinguished within the species:
- Pachypodium densiflorum var. Densiflorum
- Pachypodium densiflorum var. Brevicalyx H.Perrier .
Natural hybrids are known with Pachypodium brevicaule ( Pachypodium × rauhii ) and Pachypodium horombense . In addition, a culture hybrid with Pachypodium rosulatum ( Pachypodium × hojnyi ) was grown.
