Paea Wolfgramm (born December 1, 1971 in Vavaʻu , Tonga ) is a former Tongan heavyweight boxer .
amateur
Wolfgramm took third place as an amateur at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria and won the Oceanic Championship in 1995 in Nukuʻalofa , Tonga.
In the boxing competition of the 1996 Summer Olympics , the normal boom in the super heavyweight category (over 91 kg) won the silver medal. He weighed 154.5 kg at the time and had won 23 fights. In the second round he defeated the Belarusian Sjarhej Lyachowitsch and in the quarterfinals the Cuban Alexis Rubalcaba . With a point win over the Nigerian Duncan Dokiwari , he then moved into the final. There he met Wladimir Klitschko from Ukraine , whom he had to admit defeat on points. Wolfgramm is still the only medalist in Tonga's Olympic history.

After the Olympic Games, Paea Wolfgramm became a professional boxer in December 1996. However, he was never able to build on his good amateur performances. In May 1998 he lost to Marion Wilson (10-25-3) over six rounds on points. His only victory against a better-known opponent came in August 1998 against the worn-out Cuban Jorge Luis González , whom he defeated over eight rounds only barely on points.
On March 18, 2000 he fought in Hamburg in a twelve-round fight for the intercontinental title of the WBC again against his amateur rival Wladimir Klitschko and was knocked out in the first round. Wolfgramm lost two of his next four fights and hung up the gloves in 2001. In 2003 a comeback attempt failed.
Others
Wolfgramm has six children - four sons and two daughters. After his boxing career, he became a boarding school teacher at the renowned Wesley College in Pukekohe , New Zealand .
