Pakistan Super League 2016/17

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pakistan Super League 2016/17 was the second season of the Twenty20 discharged format Pakistan Super League for Pakistani cricket - franchises . It took place from February 9th to March 5th, 2017. In the final, the Peshawar Zalmi prevailed against the Quetta Gladiators with 58 runs .

prehistory

The aim of the organizers was to have the final in Pakistan, where since the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009, international cricket has hardly been played. Since the association expected that numerous overseas players would refuse to play the scheduled final in Lahore , it was decided that missing players could be replaced from a pool. Among other things, the players' association FICA warned that security in Pakistan could not be guaranteed. On February 14th there was a bomb attack in Lahore, in which 13 people were killed and the decision of the players was again difficult. Among other things, those responsible for the technical implementation of the Decision Review System refused to travel to Pakistan, so that it could only be insufficiently replaced. When the Quetta Gladiators qualified for the final, all of the team's overseas players decided not to play in Lahore. The Peshawar Zalmi team remained largely intact, which was also ensured with high entry fees (up to 50,000 dollars per player). The game took place under extreme security precautions. For example, players were flown in and out only on the final day and the stadium was secured with 10,000 security guards.
