The Palestinian Community in Germany was mentioned several times in reports for the protection of the constitution . According to the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution, it is close to the Sunni - Islamist Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas .

History and Cooperations

The Palestinian Community in Germany was founded on February 5, 2009 in Berlin. In 2010 she supported the preparation and implementation of the 8th Conference of Palestinians in Europe in the Berlin Tempodrom . At the conference, which has been held annually since 2002 by the British organization Palestinian Return Center (PRC), based in London, and the General Secretariat of the Conference of Palestinians , based in Vienna, as the main organizers in various major European cities, several speakers close to Hamas took part in Berlin on. In 2011 the PGD co-organized the 9th Conference of Palestinians in Europe in the Uni-Halle in Wuppertal. In 2015, the PGD also organized the 13th Conference of Palestinians in Europe in Berlin . The German Youth for Palestine (DJP) and the Palestinian Women's Association are further cooperation partners of the PGD and organizations close to Hamas .

Assessments of the protection of the constitution

Since the PGD was founded in 2009, there has been a regular exchange of information within the framework of regular cooperation at the level of the constitutional protection group consisting of the 17 German constitution protection authorities.

In the 2016 report on the Protection of the Constitution, the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution writes that the supporters of the PGD “mainly consist of HAMAS supporters”. The Berlin Senate Department for Internal Affairs and Sport announced this assessment as early as autumn 2014 . The protection of the Constitution of North Rhine-Westphalia takes the view that the terrorist organization Hamas is represented in Germany by the PGD. The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is also observing the PGD due to “its substantive and ideological proximity to Hamas”.

Controversy

According to the Anti-Semitism Research and Information Center (RIAS), the anti-Israeli protests against the Jerusalem decision by US President Donald Trump in 2017 in Germany were organized by the PGD. In Frankfurt am Main, she also hosted the demonstration openly as the organizer. In response to the riots, the PGD condemned "anti-Semitic behavior and slogans in all possible formats, be it on demonstrations, rallies or on social networks".

As early as 2014, the PGD hosted demonstrations, including a. in Stuttgart , Berlin and Dortmund , which led to riots and anti-Semitic slogans. A broad alliance protested against the 13th Conference of Palestinians in Europe , which was co-organized by the PGD and which took place in Berlin in 2015. The alliance Berlin against Hamas , based on a call by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation and the American Jewish Committee (AJC), joined forces. a. numerous politicians from all parties represented in the Berlin House of Representatives . But there were also voices of solidarity for the 13th Conference of Palestinians in Europe , u. a. by Christine Buchholz ( Die Linke ), from the Federal Working Group on Just Peace Middle East of the Left Party and from the political scientist and journalist Ludwig Watzal .

In the past, there were always disputes about PGD events, as they had rented rooms under a different name. In this context, Volker Beck ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) spoke of the PGD as the “cover organization of Hamas”.

According to the rbb , the imam Mohamed Taha Sabri from the Neukölln meeting place , which is monitored by the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution and assigned to the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood , also appeared at the PGD.
