The Palladio was a ferry of the Italian shipping company Siremar , which was commissioned in 1989 for the Adriatica di Navigazione . The ship has operated on the route from Porto Empedocle via Linosa to Lampedusa since 2006 , before being retired in 2016 and scrapped in Aliağa, Turkey .
history
The Palladio was built under construction number 5864 near Fincantieri in Ancona and was launched on October 20, 1989. After delivery to the Adriatica di Navigazione on March 18, 1989, the ship began ferry operations between Bari and Durrës .
After 15 years in service for Adriatica, the Palladio was chartered long-term to the Siremar shipping company in November 2004. She started using this from December 2004 between Porto Empedocle via Linosa to Lampedusa. In 2005 the ship switched to the route from Milazzo to Aeolian and Naples , before being used again on its previous route from May 2006.
After a fire in the engine room in 2013, the Palladio was modernized in November 2014. Still, it stayed in service for just over a year before being sold for scrapping in March 2016. On March 11, 2016, after 27 years of service, the ship arrived at the demolition yard in Aliağa, Turkey.
Sister ships
The Palladio has two sister ships, the Sansovino and the Laurana , which are still in service for Siremar.
