Danil Sergejewitsch Lyssenko ( Russian Данил Сергеевич Лысенко , English transcription Danyil Lysenko; born May 19, 1997 in Birsk , Bashkortostan ) is a former Russian high jumper .

Athletic career

Danil Lyssenko gained his first international experience at the European Youth Olympic Festival 2013 in Utrecht , where he won the gold medal with a height of 2.08 m. A year later he was sixth with 2.22 m at the Junior World Championships in Eugene . A month later he won the gold medal at the second Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing with 2.20 m. In 2015 he started at the Junior European Championships in Eskilstuna, Sweden and reached fifth place with 2.17 m.

In 2017, the Russian Federation was excluded from the World Championships in London . Since Lyssenko had submitted to a control system that was considered to be trustworthy by the World Federation ( IAAF ), he was allowed to participate as an individual starter in a team called " Authorized Neutral Athletes ". At the world championships he won the silver medal behind the Katari Mutaz Essa Barshim with 2.32 m . In that year he also became the Russian high jump champion.

In 2018 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham and won the gold medal there with 2.36 m ahead of Barshim. In July, he improved his personal best to 2.40 m at the Herculis Diamond League meeting in Monaco .

Doping allegation 2018

Since Lyssenko missed three doping tests in twelve months, he lost his right to start as a neutral athlete at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin due to a violation of the anti-doping rules .

In the course of the 15-month investigation of the independent integrity commission AIU of the world athletics association IAAF against Lyssenko, RUSAF boss Schljachtin and six other officials were banned in December 2019 for "serious violations of the anti-doping guidelines" because they, among other things, falsified documents should have created, which should relieve Lyssenko.
