Igor Paklin

Igor Wassiljewitsch Paklin ( Russian Игорь Васильевич Паклин ; born June 15, 1963 in Frunze, today Bishkek ) is a former Kyrgyz high jumper who competed for the Soviet Union.

At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 Paklin jumped 2.29 meters and together with Dietmar Mögenburg took fourth place at the same height as third-placed Chinese Zhu Jianhua . At the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg in 1984, Paklin was eighth with 2.20 meters.

On September 4, 1985 Paklin won the Universiade in Kobe with the world record height of 2.41 meters in front of the Cuban Francisco Centelles with 2.31 meters and the German Gerd Nagel with 2.26 meters. At the European Championships in 1986 in Stuttgart Paklin won the title with 2.34 meters in front of his Soviet teammate Sergei Maltschenko and the German Carlo Thränhardt , who each crossed 2.31 meters.

In Indianapolis at the World Indoor Championships in 1987 he jumped just like his teammate Hennadij Awdjejenko 2.38 meters. Paklin won gold on the multiple try rule. In the summer at the World Championships in Rome , three jumpers jumped over 2.38 meters. Paklin and Awdjejenko won silver behind the Swede Patrik Sjöberg .

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 Paklin finished seventh with 2.31 meters. In Tokyo he was tenth again at the 1991 World Championships with 2.24 meters. At the Olympic Games in 1992 Paklin, now starting for the United Team , failed in the qualification as well as at the World Championships in 1993 in Stuttgart.

Paklin was Soviet champion in 1985 and 1991. In 1992 he became the master of the Commonwealth of Independent States. He is 1.93 m tall and weighed 71 kg at competition times.
