Pankraz Wagner

Pankraz Wagner (* in Lichtenfels ; † December 1584 in Wimpfen ) was a German sculptor.

Life

In Bamberg, where he can be traced back to 1571, he owned the house Sonnenplätze 2, in which the printer Albrecht Pfister also lived around 1460. On March 11, 1582, his wife Margaretha died and was buried at the Upper Parish in Bamberg. After her death he moved to Wimpfen. When he died in December 1584, the guardians of his son Erasmus sold the property in Bamberg. His brother Adam Wagner (*? In Lichtenfels ; † 1594 in Heilbronn ) was also a sculptor.

His most important work is the rich gate at the old court in Bamberg . The grave monument of his wife from 1582 to the left of the main portal of the upper parish was also made by him. In this church there is also the tomb from 1577 for the provost of the collegiate monastery of St. Stephan and Jerusalem pilgrim Johann Fuchs von Bimbach , which is ascribed to Pankraz Wagner.

Outside of Bamberg are known:

  • a wayside shrine at Weichenwasserlos from 1578,
  • the grave monument of Christoph Neustetter, called Stürmer and his wife Margaretha von Giech from the parish church in Kronach , the remains of this grave monument are in the Kronach local history museum,
  • the sandstone figure of a Franconian knight in the courtyard of the moated castle Mitwitz, created between 1572 and 1577 (the figure was at the city fountain of Weismain until 1879 ).
