Paolo Salvati (born February 22, 1939 in Rome ; † June 24, 2014 there ) was an Italian painter . He was an expressionist painter who saw it as his artistic role to live the modern together with the ancient art. His role models were William Turner , Claude Monet , Vincent van Gogh , Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec .

life and work

From 1967 to 1969 he exhibited a series of works oil on canvas in Cagliari , Oristano , Bosa , Ghilarza and Paulilatino . From 1970 he took part in the exhibition of plastic and figurative art by Trinità dei Monti and Galleria Alberto Sordi (former Galleria Colonna) in Rome. He painted subjects inspired by imagination, such as “Pietra Blu” (1973 and 1974), “i Sogni di Primavera d'Alta Montagna” (1974) and “d'Estate” (1975), “Alberi Blu” (1980 ), "La Montagna Gialla" (1991). He then created a series of works, Landscapes, Sea Views, Portraits, entitled “Fronde Rosse” (1993, 1994 and 2000).

He used the techniques of oil on canvas, tempera , pastel, acrylic and personally made canvases and frames that were used for his works. Between 1973 and 1993 he worked as a miniature painter in Piazza Navona in Rome. He painted oil on wood miniatures showing Roman monuments and fantasy landscapes. Since 1977 he has only worked as a portrait painter; he used pastel colors on paper and painted numerous portraits in the following years, including oil on canvas. He became an expert in the planning and implementation of wooden frames and developed cold bonding techniques for the application of gold and silver foils. He loves music for concert guitar; out of passion he tried his hand at violin making .

He has a close friendship with the painters Gabriele Patriarca and Rinaldo Caressa, the painter and sculptor Roberto Venturoni and the painter, poet and actor Alessandro Sbardella, with whom he has done some exhibitions, such as “100 pittori di via Margutta” and events of improvised painting .

Between November 2000 and January 2001 he first presented a personal exhibition in the gallery "Gesù e Maria" in Via del Corso in Rome. He then took part in the painting and sculpture exhibition “Accadimenti Giubilari nel tempo e nell'attualità”, which was organized to celebrate the end of the anniversary year. In 2006 he met the critic Andrea De Liberi and his biography appeared in the cultural news of the European Institute for Environmental and Cultural Policy. In July 2009, in Trani , Apulia , he met the art critic Paolo Levi, then artistic director of “Catalogo dell'Arte Moderna Giorgio Mondadori”. He took part in the contemporary art biennial organized by the Giuseppe De Nittis Foundation at Castello Svevo.

During the test drives and in the competition on October 20 and 21, 2012, the driver Andrea Palma drove in the Monza National Autodrom with a replica of a representation of Salvati: a color print on the hood of the Ferrari 430 .

Awards

In December 1996 Paolo Salvati received the ArtItalia price in Rome at the “L'Agostiniana” gallery at the “Contemporary Art” event, where he exhibited the 1996 painting “Scogliera in Notturno” (50 × 60, oil on canvas).

In August 2000 he was awarded the first prize at the fourth event of the “Contemporary Art” competition of the municipality of Anticoli Corrado for the painting “Le Stalle” (50 × 60, oil on canvas).

On December 13, 2005 he received honorary citizenship of the Lazio region .

On December 27, 2012, he was appointed Cavaliere of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on the proposal of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
