Papa is a Canadian short film from the year 2005 . It is Émile Proulx-Cloutier's film debut as a director and screenwriter.

action

The young man Nicolas is planning a four-month trip to India that his father gave him. Nico wants to visit New Delhi , Bombay , Madras and Calcutta to get to know the world better and gain life experiences, as his father used to do. During a phone call with his mother, he is shocked to find that his passport has expired and that he can therefore not take the flight. Nico doesn't want to disappoint his father. So that he doesn't find out that he is still in Montreal , he writes letters to his papa as if he were in India. He forges postmarks and takes vacation photos of Simone, his supposedly true love. In reality he has two petty affairs. The father reads the letters with enthusiasm and does not become suspicious. He is in the hospital undergoing surgery for prostate cancer . He dies unexpectedly under anesthesia . His wife and son are desperate. Nico follows his father's last advice to do whatever he wants for himself and flies to Mexico .
