Giorgi Papuashvili

Giorgi Papuaschwili ( Georgian გიორგი პაპუაშვილი ; born December 26, 1972 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician. The lawyer and political scientist was Georgia’s Justice Minister from February 2004 to February 2005 . From February 2005 to July 2006 he was Minister of the Environment. Since then he has been a judge at the Georgian Constitutional Court.

Life

He graduated from the Faculty of International Law and International Relations of Tbilisi State University . In 1995 he passed his master's degree in law and political science with distinction.

From 1996 to 1999 he worked as an adviser to the Legal Committee of the Georgian Parliament, chaired by Mikheil Saakashvili . At the same time, he studied at the political science faculty of the Central European University in Budapest , obtained his Masters degree, and was an intern at the Council of Europe , the European Union and various US development aid agencies. In 1999 he moved to the American University in Washington as a scholarship holder of the Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program , where he completed a law degree in 2004. He then became director of the Open Society Foundation's legal and anti- corruption program in Georgia.

President Saakashvili appointed him his legal advisor in January 2004. On February 17, 2004 , Parliament elected him Minister of Justice of Georgia. After the death of Zurab Schwania , he became Minister of Environment under Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli . On July 21, 2006 , he was dismissed from office and appointed judge at the Georgian Constitutional Court by President Saakashvili.

Papuashvili is married and has two children. He speaks English and Russian.
