Parachute is a so-called Statutory Town in Garfield County in the US state of Colorado .
According to a note from 1879, the name of the city goes back to a stream that is shaped like a parachute. Later the Indian word pahchouc for twins served as an explanation. In 1908, the place name was changed based on the nearby Grand Valley of the Colorado River , presumably to benefit from tourist flows. In the 1980s the place got its original name back.
