Paremoremo is a town in the Auckland Council's urban areaon the North Island of New Zealand . Until October 2010 the place belonged to the former Rodney District .

The place is about 15 km northwest of the city center of Auckland and about 6.5 km west of the Albany district .
history
Paremoremo used to be a small independent community on Waitemata Harbor , where a European settlement emerged after a quay was built at the end of Attwood Road . At the beginning of the last century the place was known for its farms, market gardens and orchards.

For the 2013 census, the town, which was divided by statisticians into Paremoremo East and Paremoremo West , had 3396 inhabitants.
Paremoremo Prison
Today Paremoremo is known as the location of New Zealand's only maximum security prison. It was built in 1968 and renamed from Paremoremo Prison to Auckland Prison in the 1990s . The prison can accommodate 667 inmates.
