The Park Kolonnaden on Potsdamer Platz and Köthener Straße in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg , completed between 2000 and 2002, are an ensemble of five buildings that connect offices, shops and apartments with one another according to the so-called “ Berlin mix ”. The building ensemble was designed by the Milanese architect Giorgio Grassi , the individual buildings partially designed by other architects.

The house with the round glass facade, located directly on Potsdamer Platz, was built roughly at the point where the Fatherland House - known in the first half of the 20th century - stood until 1976 . From 2001 to 2004 this building is the headquarters of the service union was ver.di .

The building complex is located on the eastern part of the former Potsdam passenger station . Adjacent to the west, the Tilla-Durieux-Park was created in 2003 , a lawn sculpture with a length of 450 meters, a height of up to four meters and embankments that drop down to 35 °.

From November 2005 to March 2007 the facade of the front house was used as an oversized, very coarse pixelated light art facade. The light and media installation and the entertainment program of the same name with the title SPOTS was developed by the Berlin artists / architects realities: united (cf. Kunsthaus Graz ). Artists such as John deKron and realities: united , Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Jim Campbell , Carsten Nicolai , fettFilm , Jonathan Monk and Terry Gilliam played on the installation with partially interactive video art. An example of art in public spaces .

In 2008 the Expressionale took place in the Park Kolonnaden for the first time with large works of Expressionism and New Objectivity .

A special feature of the building ensemble is that the U2 line of the Berlin subway - coming from the Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park station - runs underground directly at its southern end . The existing underground tunnel was built over with the building. Furthermore, within the building complex, a route for the planned line S21 of the Berlin S-Bahn parallel to the subway tunnel has been kept free, two tunnel nozzles were already realized during the construction of the northernmost house in its basement as an advance service.
