The 1999 general election in Iceland took place on May 8, 1999. In the election, the 63 MPs of the Althing were redefined.

The 1999 election was the first election after the fundamental change in the Icelandic party landscape . Various left forces had come together to form the alliance , whereupon another new party, the Left-Green Movement , was formed, which did not join this alliance. In 1998 the Liberal Party of Iceland was founded.

The election brought a clear victory for the Independence Party under Prime Minister Davíð Oddsson . It was able to collect 40.7% of the vote.

The coalition government of the Independence Party and the Progress Party continued.

Of the 201,443 eligible voters, 169,424 voted, corresponding to a turnout of around 84.1%. 3,697 or around 2.2% of the votes were invalid.
