The Partido Liberal was the liberal party in Nicaragua from 1893 to 1928 .

The Partido Democratico had commissioned William Walker (mercenary) in Nicaragua, so it changed its name to Partido Liberal .

On July 11, 1893, the Partido Liberal of León (Nicaragua) began an uprising against Roberto Sacasa y Sarria under the leadership of José Santos Zelaya . Roberto Sacasa y Sarria was the maternal grandfather of Mrs. Salvadora Debayle, the wife of Anastasio Somoza García . On July 24, 1893, the battle was at Cuesta del Plomo 20, 3 kilometers northwest of Managua, where an ExxonMobil oil refinery now stands. On July 24, 1893, the day of the patron saint Santiago of Managua, Managua was taken by the Partido Liberal.

On December 10, 1893, a new constitution was passed, which came into force on July 11, 1894. The new constitution emphasized a secular state, secular educational institutions, the separation of state and church, civil marriage, civil divorce and civil registration with documents such as birth certificates and death certificates. Abolition of the desamortización de bienes de "manos muertas" Abolition of tax exemption for the church and freedom to practice religion.

In 1909, José Santos Zelaya tried to collect taxes from The Rosario and Light Mines Co. Adolfo Díaz was an accountant for the US mining company. This had acquired the mines of the La Luz y Los Angeles Mining Company in Siuna . The Rosarion and Light Mines Co. helped finance the uprising of the Partido Conservador . The legal advisor of the Rosario Mining Company , Philander C. Knox , became US Secretary of State in the US administration of William Howard Taft and wrote a note named after him.

On December 20, 1909, José Santos Zelaya resigned and the following presidents, José Madriz and Luis Mena, were not recognized by the US government. She only spoke to Adolfo Díaz Recinos again. On December 31, 1910, the Asamblea Nacional, dominated by the Partido Conservador , nominated Juan José Estrada as president and Adolfo Díaz Recinos as vice-president. After the resignation of Juan José Estrada on May 9, 1911, Vice President Díaz became President Díaz, who ruled during the first US intervention.

In 1924 Juan Bautista Sacasa of the Partido Liberal became vice-president in a libero-conservadora coalition under Carlos José Solórzano of the Partido Conservador Republicano . The US government then withdrew its troops from the first occupation of Nicaragua from 1911 to 1924.

On October 25, 1925, Emiliano Chamorro Vargas of the Partido Conservador launched a coup against Solórzano. Solórzano remained president until January 16, 1926. Vice President Sacasa went to Mexico. Emiliano Chamorro and Sebastián Uriza were not recognized by the US government as presidents who wanted Adolfo Díaz , the accountant of a US mining company, in that office. According to the constitution, the vice-president replaces the president if the president is absent. From this, the Partido Liberal derived a right to the presidency for Sacasa. This insistence on the constitution gave rise to an armed conflict, the Guerra Constitucionalista . The Partido Liberal obtained weapons in Mexico. In 1926 Sacasa went to Puerto Cabezas and formed a government with the Partido Liberal . In addition to Sacasa, José María Moncada Tapia and Augusto César Sandino also belonged to the Partido Liberal . The US government intervened for the second time with troops in Nicaragua to support Díaz .

In 1928 the Partido Liberal was renamed Partido Liberal Nacionalista .
