The Partidu Republikanu PR ( Republican Party ) is a party in East Timor .

It has been active since December 30, 2005, the official registration took place on October 12, 2006 and the party was officially founded on December 17, 2007 at its first national conference. In the political spectrum it is classified as the social democratic party of the center.

The party chose its name because the term is familiar to all Timorese and republic means that all residents can participate in the decisions about the development of the state. Therefore the party motto is The voice of the people is the highest law ( Vox Populi Suprema Lex ). The party has strong ties to student movements and to the East Timorese educated class. There are separate organizations for the youth, women, workers and farmers.

Members

Its founder, the economist João Mariano Saldanha , is the chairman . The General Secretary is Belarmino F. Neves .

Political goals

The party wants to create a social democracy that ensures equality, justice and tolerance. She sees security, job creation, peace and order, education, health, decentralization and gender equality as six main themes. Customs and traditions should be preserved, but new ideas should enrich East Timor’s society.

The East Timorese National Police PNTL is to be professionalized through better training and a clearer separation of the PNTL leadership and politics. The role of the East Timor’s Defense Forces F-FDTL is also to be redefined and to focus on emergencies, peacekeeping and natural disasters.

The aim is to eradicate poverty by supporting industry. The taxes on capital and everyday goods are to be completely abolished. Free competition is to be encouraged, especially in telecommunications, in order to lower prices and achieve better service for customers. The Ministry of Defense and the F-FDTL High Command should be separated more clearly in order to prevent the army from being politically instrumentalized.

National unity is to be strengthened, which is why the names for the western and eastern parts of the country, Loro Munu and Loro Sae, are to be criminalized as discriminatory. Tetum is said to be the dominant language in administration. All official documents should first be written in Tetum and then translated into Portuguese and the working languages Bahasa Indonesia and English . In order to make work in the globalized world easier for young people, the private sector and the government, English is to become the third official language alongside Tetum and Portuguese.

A ministry for gender equality and minorities is to be created to promote the participation of women in politics, public administration, the military and other areas.

20 percent of the state budget should flow into agriculture in order to create jobs for unemployed youth. The rural structure is to be developed through the construction of water / sewer pipes, electricity, roads, schools and health centers. Malaria should be eradicated by 2015. The cost of electricity production is to be reduced so that poor families can also gain access. The labor market should be regulated and only skilled workers from abroad should be allowed to East Timor in order to protect the local unskilled workers.

The national parliament is to be strengthened. At the same time, tasks should be given to the municipalities and administrative offices , which should then be given their own directly elected administrators so that the people know their political leaders directly. Banks should also be encouraged to work in rural areas.

The party calls itself pacifist. The current problems should be solved through diplomacy. International trade, sporting and cultural relations with other countries should be promoted. In the border communities, Bahasa Indonesia should therefore also be taught in schools.

Illiteracy should be combated. To this end, educational policy should also be decentralized and private schools, such as the Catholic ones, should be supported. Religion and ethics should be taught from elementary school to university.

Party symbol and flag

The party symbol is a man who ties a scarf and blows a buffalo horn. The horn symbolizes the identity of the East Timorese. It brings a message, the voice of the people. The buffalo is of social and economic value to the country. He is a strong animal, which expresses that PR has the power to take on the development of the country.

The party flag is white with a green circle with the yellow letters "PR" in the middle. White stands for pure hearts and pure minds, green for progress, development and protection of the environment. The circle in the center represents the goal. The yellow of the letters stands for peace. Together the flag means that PR supports the development of the country with a pure heart and spirit with clear views to achieve prosperity in peace.
