Numerous screenplays for feature films followed, including several films based on books from the Angélique series as well as the Louis de Funès classics Balduin - the night ghost and the cross head . In 1976, Jardin was nominated for a César in the Best Screenplay category for his adaptation The Old Rifle ; He received another César nomination posthumously in 1983 for words usually come too late .
