Pascal Jardin
Pascal Jardin (born May 14, 1934 in Paris , † July 30, 1980 ibid) was a French writer and screenwriter .
Life
Jardin was born as the son of the politician Jean Jardin (1904–1976) in Paris. He grew up in Vichy , where his father was Pierre Laval 's cabinet director. Due to the war, Jardin seldom attended school and at the age of 15 could hardly read and write due to dyslexia , but overcame it.
As a young man he went to Paris, where he became the assistant to director Marc Allégret through the mediation of the journalist and writer Yves Salgues (1924–1997) . His first works in film were Allégrets Be beautiful and shut up (1958, as second assistant director) and Let Live and Love (1958, dialogues and adaptation). After working several times for Allégret, Jardin worked for Claude Sautet as early as 1960, for example, he was involved in the screenplay of the latter's film The Panther is rushed . For Charles Gérad's The Boss Knows No Mercy , Jardin wrote the script for the first time in 1960. Numerous screenplays for feature films followed, including several films based on books from the Angélique series as well as the Louis de Funès classics Balduin - the night ghost and the cross head . In 1976, Jardin was nominated for a César in the Best Screenplay category for his adaptation The Old Rifle ; He received another César nomination posthumously in 1983 for words usually come too late .
Jardin had published his first novel Les petits malins as early as 1957 . His second work, La guerre à neuf ans , in which he deals with his father, followed in 1971 . His novel Le nain jaune won the 1978 Grand Prix du Roman of the Académie française .
Jardin died in 1980 as a result of cancer. He left two sons, the later authors and directors Alexandre Jardin (* 1965) and Frédéric Jardin (* 1968). Fanny Chèze published the biography Pascal Jardin in 2010 .
