Pasighat ( Hindi पासीघाट Pāsīghāṭ , Chinese  巴 昔 卡 , Pinyin Bāxíkǎ ) is a place in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh . It had just under 25,000 inhabitants at the 2011 census and is the administrative seat of the East Siang district .

The College of Horticulture and Forestry , which is affiliated to the Central Agricultural University in Imphal , was founded in 2001 in Pasighat. By the National Highway 52 (NH 52) Pasighat is accessible from Assam .

The Yarlung Tsangpo River reaches Pasinghat 220 km after entering Indian territory. In the vicinity of Pasighat the Yarlung Tsangpo meets two major tributaries, Dibang and Lohit , after which the river is called Brahmaputra .

The People's Republic of China also claims sovereignty over Pasighat, as well as over a large part of Arunachal Pradesh. The disputed area is also known in Chinese as Zàngnán (藏 南, "Southern Tibet"). According to the administrative division of China, Pasighat belongs to the Mêdog County of the Tibet Autonomous Region .
