Pasquale Cafaro (1779), M [AEST] RO DI MUSICA DI S [UA] R [EAL] M [AESTÀ] REGINA DI NAPOLI  - "Music Master of Her Royal Majesty the Queen of Naples"

Pasquale Cafaro (born February 8, 1715 in San Pietro in Galatina , † October 23, 1787 in Naples ) was an Italian composer of the Neapolitan School .

Life

According to his parents' wishes, Cafaro was to become a lawyer, but from 1735 he was able to study music at the Conservatorio della Pietà dei Turchini in Naples. There Leonardo Leo became his most important teacher. After his death in 1744, Cafaro succeeded him. The oratorio Il figliuolprodigo ravveduto (1745) opened the series of his great compositions - u. a. 7 operas , 6 sacred oratorios and several masses  - which earned him high recognition. He rose to the direction of the Conservatorio della Pietà and received high offices from King Ferdinand and Queen Maria Carolina at the court of Naples as well as the artistic director of the Teatro San Carlo . His students included Giacomo Tritto , Francesco Bianchi , Angelo Tarchi and Honoré Langlé .
