" Passage Jouffroy and Verdeau"

Passage Verdeau is located between 6 rue de la Grange – Batelière and 31 bis rue du Faubourg Montmartre, in a mixed residential business district near the Grands Boulevards . In this area, a short distance from each other, you will find most of the surviving passages in Paris: Passage Jouffroy and Passage des Panoramas , both in the 9th arrondissement, Passage Brady and Passage du Prado , both in the 10th arrondissement and Passage du Caire in the 2nd arrondissement .

The Passage Verdeau can be described as an extension of the Passage des Panoramas and the Passage Jouffroy , because you leave one passage, cross a street and immediately enter the next passage. These three passages are lined up one behind the other and the idea of the 19th century to put the strollers in a special atmosphere in a specially created environment can still be experienced today.

Name origin

The passage was named after M. Verdeau, who was one of the supporters and shareholders of Société du passage Jouffroy . He was also the inventor of the linen rental system for hotels and furnished apartments.

history

The Passage Verdeau is the extension of the Passages Panoramas and Joffroy and was built in 1846 by the Société du passage Jouffroy . It was always in the shadow of the two neighboring passages, as it does not have access from the Grands Boulevards like the others . It has a high glass roof and is very bright, the decor takes on the style elements of neoclassicism .

The proximity to the Hôtel Drouot , an auction house for art, has meant that second-hand bookshops and art dealers in particular have settled in the passage. A photo shop has existed here since 1901.
