Career

society

Patesko, a quick left winger, comes from a Polish immigrant family. He originally played in his hometown Curitiba , the capital of the southern Brazilian state of Paraná, at Palestra Itália FC, which was later to be merged into what is now Paraná Clube .

After he played for Gremio Esportivo Força e Luz in 1932 in the Riograndens capital Porto Alegre , he moved to Montevideo in 1932 to play there under coach Ondino Viera for the local Club Nacional de Football . In the Uruguayan championship in 1933 Nacional was at the end of the year level on points with the CA Peñarol in first place. In the three playoffs for the title where Nacional won the title, and which all took place in 1934, the last of which in November, Patesko was not there. Presumably the paths of Nacional and Patesko parted ways in February 1934. In March and April, the press already published reports on changes to SC Corinthians Paulista in São Paulo and CR Vasco da Gama in Rio, but neither of them came about. It was rumored that Patesko had temporarily valid contracts with two clubs. He was finally taken under contract by the Brazilian association CBD , with whose selection he took part in the 1934 World Cup in Italy. There he played for the Seleção in the 1: 3 first round off against Spain. Before and after the tournament he played other games for the Cebedenses .

At the end of 1934 there was finally an engagement with Botafogo FC in Rio, where he made his debut on December 9 in a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Vasco da Gama. With Botafogo he immediately won the championship of Rio de Janeiro in 1935. He stayed with Botafogo until the end of his career in 1943, although in September 1941 he also played for Atlético Mineiro in a friendly .

He remained a regular player in the national team with which he was second at the South American Championship in 1937 . At the 1938 World Cup in France, he was third with Brazil. A third place followed at the South American Championships in 1942 . In total, he completed 15 official (six goals) and 19 unofficial (six goals) internationals.

After his active career, Patesko worked in Rio de Janeiro at the Hipódromo da Gávea , the city's horse racing track. At the time he had completely broken off contact with his family, he was the father of a son.

On the morning of 13 March 1988 died rodolpho barteczko isolated in a hospital in Curicica , a district in the west of Rio, to tuberculosis . A phone call from a fan informed his former club about this. The club's board of directors organized a proper burial of the club's idol. His former teammate João Saldanha , a major sports journalist in his later career and national coach before the 1970 World Cup, said he was a fan of Patesko.
