João Alves Jobin Saldanha (born July 3, 1917 in Alegrete , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil , † July 12, 1990 Rome , Italy ) was a journalist and football coach. He coached the Brazilian national team and led them to participate in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. During the tournament she trained Mario Zagallo and led her to the title. In 1957 he was hired by Botafogo as a coach, despite his lack of experience as a coach. In the same season he won the State Championship in Rio de Janeiro . Saldanha resigned from this post in 1959.

In 1969 he was entrusted with the management of the Selecao . The team won their first game 6-0. Allegedly, sports official João Havelange should have appointed him, in the hope that the journalists would not criticize him so much because he was a journalist himself
