Path of Golconda is a German death metal band from Oberhausen , which was founded in 1999. The band name is derived from the Kabbalah teachings.

history

The band was founded in 1999 by drummer Roman Bartosch, guitarists Rüdiger Braun and Christoph Hell, bassist Daniel Bigus and singer Tobias Becker. A first demo followed in 2002 with Demonheart (An Anathema to This World) , which was followed by the demo Astigian (First Steps Into Oblivian) in 2003 . In the following years Daniel's brother Manuel Bigus joined the band as a singer, whereupon the 2004 debut album Destination: Downfall was released as a self-release. The album was recorded in Stage One Studio under the direction of Andy Classen . The release followed various appearances, among others together with Napalm Death , Hypocrisy , Die Apokalyptischen Reiter , Hatesphere and Unleashed . The band then went back to Stage One with Classen to record their next album, The Threshold Diaries , which was self-released in 2006. Upon release, guitarist Hell left the band and was replaced by British guitarist Andrew French. After repeated appearances, the band recorded their next album with Andy Classen in mid-2009, which was released in mid-November under the name Return via Yonah Records .

style

On their first demo Demonheart (An Anathema to This World) the band played Death Metal, with influences from Thrash and Black Metal , comparable to the music of Hypnos . The second demo Astigian (First Steps Into Oblivian) is compared with the works of Disbelief , whereby the music is "enriched with light Black Metal set pieces and garnished with a light Gothic design". The debut album Destination: Downfall turned out to be even more varied and is described as a mixture of "Thrash, Death, Melo-Death , Black and Hardcore ". On the album The Threshold Diaries , the black metal influences largely went back. Influences from Thrash Metal are still audible. The music is comparable to the works of groups like Withered Beauty , Elderly Opeth , Fragments of Unbecoming , Legion of the Damned , Negator , Dark Fortress and Sonic Reign . The singing is compared to that of Dark Tranquility . On the album Return , the band played Death Metal, which was varied both in terms of sound and text.
