Patrick Kohlmann (born February 25, 1983 in Dortmund ) is a former German - Irish soccer player and current assistant coach in the coaching staff of Holstein Kiel .
Career
In the club
The son of a German father and an Irish mother grew up in the Dortmund district of Wickede and began playing football there at BV Westfalia Wickede . He later joined the youth team of TSC Eintracht Dortmund before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 1993 . Kohlmann stayed at BVB for 14 years, during which he made the jump from youth to the second men's team. With the Dortmund amateurs he played from 2002 to 2007 in the Regionalliga Nord with the exception of the 2005/06 season, when the team was relegated to the Oberliga Westfalen .
In the 2004/05 season Kohlmann was promoted to the first team of the Bundesliga and he celebrated his debut in the professional team in November 2004. In the away game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern he was in the starting line-up, but was replaced at halftime due to a serious knee injury. Officially, Kohlmann was only in the professional squad in the 2004/05 season. However, he also trained with the professionals from time to time and sat on the bench a few times at Bundesliga games.
For the 2007/08 season Kohlmann moved from Dortmund II to league rivals FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt . With the Erfurt team, he qualified for the newly created third division this season , but at the end of the season he switched to the league competitor 1. FC Union Berlin . In his first year he won the championship of the third division with Union and rose to the second division . From then on he was part of the regular formation of the Berliners. After six years, the defender left the Köpenicker in the summer of 2014 and joined the third division Holstein Kiel , with whom he signed a two-year contract until June 30, 2016. After another season with the Kieler Störchen, Patrick Kohlmann ended his active career and began as an additional assistant coach in Markus Anfang's coaching team in the summer of 2017 .
In the national team
Kohlmann has both German and Irish citizenship , as his mother comes from there. Therefore, he played a total of five games for the Irish U-21 national team and made his debut on August 19, 2003 in the game against Poland .
