Patrick Laurence Murphy

Patrick Laurence Murphy (born October 28, 1920 in Eastwood, a district of Adelaide , South Australia , † March 18, 2007 ) was Bishop of Broken Bay in New South Wales , Australia .

Life

Patrick Laurence Murphy was ordained a priest in Sydney on July 22, 1944 .

On December 20, 1976 he was by Pope Paul VI. appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Sydney and titular bishop of Aquae in Numidia . The Archbishop of Sydney, James Darcy Cardinal Freeman , ordained him episcopal on January 22 of the following year. Co- consecrators were Archbishop of Canberra-Goulburn , Thomas Vincent Cahill , and Archbishop James Patrick Carroll , Auxiliary Bishop in Sydney.

On April 8, 1986, he was appointed bishop of the newly founded Diocese of Broken Bay . In 1996, his resignation was granted by Pope John Paul II .
