Patrick Tschan

Patrick Tschan (born January 24, 1962 in Basel , Switzerland ) is a Swiss writer .

Life

Tschan studied history , German and philosophy at the University of Basel . At the same time he wrote a play , The Devil's Bridge , and performed it with fellow students . This was followed by three more theater works as a director , The Calf's Skin by Hansjörg Schneider , The Three Short Plays by Federico Garcia Lorca and The Ghost Sonata by August Strindberg , with semi-professional ensembles. He made his living as a copywriter / concept writer and later asCreative director and co-owner of various advertising agencies . Tschan worked closely with Ernst Beyeler . He was in charge of the corporate identity and corporate design of the Fondation Beyeler . Tschan was elected the first communications manager at GGG Basel ( Society for the Good and the Charitable , founded in 1777) in 2009 - 232 years after it was founded.

Patrick Tschan is married and has a son from his first marriage. He is President of the Swiss Football Literature Team.

Literary work

The first novel to be published in 2011 was Keller Missing a Word (Braumüller Verlag, Vienna). It is the story of a man who lost his speech in a stroke and fought his way back to life. Keller is missing a word impresses with the relentlessly honest and humorous nature of the protagonist in dealing with his fate. For his debut, Patrick Tschan received the City of Solothurn's recognition award for literature in 2012. In autumn 2012 he published his most successful novel to date, Polarrot (Braumüller Verlag, Vienna, 2012). Polarrot , received by critics as a picaresque novel in the tradition of Felix Krull , Thomas Mann , describes the rise of the Toggenburg goatherd Jakob Breiter to a gold smuggler and human trafficker. The basis for his career before and during the Second World War is his job as a salesman for the textile dye “polar red” by the Basel chemical company Gugy. "Polar red" was the red of the swastika flags of the NSDAP and the German Reich. Polarrot was dramatized in 2018 under the direction of Daniela Kranz from Theater Basel . This was followed in 2015, one journey later (Braumüller Verlag, Vienna 2015). It is the story of a couple who loved each other passionately in their youth and who repeats the same journey that led to the separation 35 years later. In 2019 Der Cuban Käser was published by Zytglogge Verlag , Basel. Die Luftmechaniker is currently in progress . In addition, Tschan has published various short stories, essays and articles for Die Zeit , SWR2 , Neue Rundschau , AZ / BZ, “SlowFood” and various anthologies.
